Tamil Nadu startup uses drones to disinfect roads, buildings

A startup in Chennai, Tamil Nadu has devised an innovative plan using technology to reduce the risk of sanitation workers getting exposed to deadly novel coronavirus, or Covid-19.

The four-year-old startup Garuda Aerospace, said to be pioneers in using drones for agricultural purposes, has devised a plan to use drones to spray disinfectant.

The Tamil Nadu government, approving the innovative plan, on March 23 sent out the first drone which disinfected Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai.

"Novel coronavirus is tightening its grip over India. Doctors and healthcare personnel are irreplaceable. They always have been. So, to protect them from the risk of contracting the virus, we took help of technology to serve them better," founder and president of Garuda Aerospace Agnishwar Jayaprakash said.
